Abstract

Political scientists pay close attention to the topic of political socialization due to its importance in shaping the individual and forming political awareness for the establishment of the political system. Political socialization plays a significant role in political awareness and participation by nurturing and preparing the individual to assume various political tasks, thus establishing a democratic political system. Political socialization is considered the inculcation of political values, behaviors, and attitudes, and teaching the individual political standards. This research addresses the sources and institutions of political socialization in Algeria and the extent of their influence in promoting political awareness and their role in forming the political system. Our study confirmed the existence of shortcomings in traditional political socialization institutions and, consequently, the weakness of political awareness in Algeria. This is in addition to the complex nature of the political system, where political awareness remains constrained by the political traditions established by the political system in Algerian society.
