Abstract

The study presents and analyzes the issue of water as the axis of Iraqi-Turkish water relations and a cornerstone of geopolitics at every stage of history. It is considered one of the geopolitical criteria and determinants and the basis of connection and cooperation to protect international relations, or it can be based on continuous and permanent conflict if one country prioritizes its interests at the expense of the other. Consequently، Turkey seeks to implement a water strategy and benefit greatly from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers by constructing dams and building water projects in order to become an influential and dominant regional power. This affects Iraqi-Turkish relations. The study focuses on the bilateral relations and agreements between the two countries and the extent of their impact on water security, which necessitates means and mechanisms to reduce tensions and achieve sustainable management to support the stability of international relations between Iraq and Turkey. The study reveals the continued influence of the water variable on Iraqi-Turkish relations.
