Abstract

This research examines populism as a recurring historical phenomenon characterized by political discourse that exploits popular discontent to confront the dominance of ruling elites. This is achieved by dividing society into a corrupt elite and a pure society. Populism also weakens democratic institutions, deepens societal divisions, marginalizes minorities, and influences informal actors in political systems and international organizations, negatively impacting political stability and international cooperation
