The Russia-Ukraine War Post-2022: Economic and Geostrategic Dimensions

Abstract

This research examines and analyzes the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian War and its economic dimensions by tracing its historical roots and deconstructing its current geostrategic determinants. The study is premised on the hypothesis that the contemporary conflict is not merely a traditional border dispute, but rather a systemic clash linked to the Russian security doctrine, which views Ukrainian geography as a red line for safeguarding its national security and defensive depth in the face of Western expansion. The research highlights the motives and catalysts that led to the resurgence of a comprehensive military confrontation, tracking the deep waves and repercussions the war has left on the structure of the global economy. The findings demonstrate that the war induced a cross-border structural shock, resulting in the re-engineering of global energy markets and severe disruptions in supply chains and basic commodities. This, in turn, triggered record-breaking inflationary waves that forced major central banks to alter their monetary policies. The study also concludes that this conflict, through its intersection with other regional issues—such as Iran-US tensions—is accelerating the birth of a new international order based on technological and energy alliances, as well as multiple interest-based blocs. Consequently, this obliges regional and international powers to adopt flexible strategies grounded in diversifying partnerships, localizing defense industries, and securing independent supply chains to ensure their economic and political stability.
